Free Crochet Pattern for St Patrick’s Day – Love the Craic!

Pinterest

<<Pin This Pattern For Later!

Today I’m bringing you a free crochet pattern for St. Patrick’s Day 🙂 I love a good play on words and as you get to know me, you’ll find that I’m a bit crass…ok maybe more than a bit…and I can’t resist a bit of fun, or shall I say craic HA!

In case you aren’t familiar, craic is an Irish term for good times/entertainment/enjoyable conversation. And so I wanted to put a bit of good humor out into the world as we get ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Though do please remember there’s more to the Irish culture and heritage than drinking friend? K? K. 🙂

In the spirit of remembering just that fact, I wanted to pay a bit of respect to Irish lace with this design. Mind you, this is obviously nothing like actual Irish lace in any way. But I opted to use chains and picots to finish this piece specifically as a nod to Irish lace. If you’ve never taken a minute to learn about Irish lace, please go do that!! It is absolutely beautiful and the process is so interesting to watch!!

All of that said, a ligean ar dul!

Pattern Notes

Graph section worked in single crochet.

Beginning ch 39, start Row 1 in second ch from hook.

Ch 1 counts as first stitch in each row.

It is my personal preference that each RS row is worked in the back loop only of the previous stitch and each WS row is worked in the front loop only of the previous stitch, however you can work in the stitches normally if you like. The plus side of working in BLO/FLO is that the stitches tend to line up better.

Change Colors Fair Isle Method>

You’ll see this called Intarsia in the video, but I have since learned that, after all this time of doing this thing, this method is actually called Fair Isle.

Intarsia is specifically where you would use a separate bobbin for each and every section where the color changes (using the video’s example, the H, I, ! and Background would all have a separate bobbin in Intarsia. Where Fair Isle, the colors are carried across the wrong side of the work.

Free Crochet Pattern – Plant Purgatory Wall Hanging

Let’s face it, just because you love plants, doesn’t automatically mean you have the greenest thumb on the planet…If you or someone you know keeps buying plants just to watch them slowly die on a shelf (like me…) then this wall hanging is the perfect in-good-humor free crochet pattern to stitch up 😀

  1. I’m hoping you and your family are doing well, after a week of HELL. Aside from having to turn off the water and losing power, we had a “maavaaalous” time, having to seek refuge from all this enjoyment. Fortunately, she has a tiny apartment in a corner of her husband’s workshop, originally designed for her father-in-law until a more permanent domicile could become available. One open with a bed, living area, kitchen, and a bathroom. Perfect for a single person. That is our go-to whenever we are in conflict. Only to come home once power was restored to no a non-working heating system, oh the joys of living in Southeast Texas, the land of hurricanes and epic flooding, and the area refining company decides to explode the day before Thanksgiving. Just asking, is it better where you live, or should I just stay put? Loving your blog, refreshing to hear someone that is forthright, and expresses herself without regard to so many of the snowflake crowd. Love ya, Gerry Sheffield, Port Neches, TX

    1. Glad y’all walked away relatively unscathed, though it was definitely a hell of a week. I’d say it’s probably better up here, just depends on how much you might miss the ocean lol. Glad you love the blog, though I have been accused of being a snowflake and bleeding heart myself so it depends on your definition of snowflake lol. But I do my best to say shit like it is and to not be mean or judgey to people who don’t agree with me. Live and let live and all that.
