Free Christmas Crochet Blanket CAL – elF 2020 Square

Since this was for a collaboration, I tried to walk the line between my normal crassness and being socially acceptable….I think I did pretty alright! How about you?!

With this square, you can express how you really feel about 2020 and commemorate the frustrations of this year forever! And hopefully get a chuckle out of it all as the years go by 😉

I hope you enjoy this square and crocheting the entire free Christmas blanket, there are some seriously awesome designers pitching in on it, and I’ve seen some of the squares…it’s going to be fantastic!!

Oh hey, just so you know! This post may contain affiliate links. If you click a link and purchase anything, I will receive a small portion of the sale from the seller. There’s ZERO extra cost to you. And don’t worry, I wouldn’t suggest something to you that I wouldn’t suggest to my own family, because that would be shitty and I prefer not to be shitty to people. Thanks for supporting my little business <3

Pattern Instructions Continued

Border

Pick any corner and join love letter.

Side 1: [In corner st -Ch 2 (counts as 1st sc and ch1) and sc, ch1] (sc, ch1, sk1) repeat across 1st side

Side 2: [In corner st (sc, ch1)2 times,] (sc, ch1, sk1) repeat across 2nd side

Side 3-4: Repeat Side 2

Sl st into 1st ch and fasten off.

White Border Accent

Thread yarn needle with a long strand of white. (I like to estimate this by pulling enough yarn to loosely wrap around the piece about 2.5 times, so I pull and just lay around the outside of the square as I go)

Pull yarn so that the needle is centered on the length of the yarn.

Pick any ch1 sp and insert needle from the back.

Whip stitch through each ch1 sp around the entire border, ending in the same space you started in.

Snip and sew in all 4 ends of yarn on the wrong side of the fabric.

Elf Hat

In this section, beginning ch DOES NOT count as 1st st. Leave at least one long tail in each color for attaching the hat to the square.

Main Hat Boday:

Ch 9

Row 1: With Silver: MP in 4th ch from hook, MP in each remaining ch, fasten off, change to love letter, turn(6 mp sts)

Row 2: With Love Letter: Ch1, 6sc, turn (6)

Row 3: Ch1, dec, 2sc, dec, turn (4)

Row 4: Ch1, 4sc, turn (4)

Row 5: Ch1, dec 2 times, turn(2)

Row 6: Ch1, 2sc, turn (2)

Row 7: Ch1, dec, turn (1)

Row 8: Ch1, sc, turn (1)

Row 9: Ch 4, fasten off

Hat Pompom:

Using silver, all in last ch st of main hat body:

Ch3, MP into same st, fasten off.

Use the long ends to attach the hat above the last 0 of 2020 as pictured!

And Finally…..sew in all those ends and BLOCK IT!! Since this is so heavy on the acrylic, I recommend wet blocking. If you went with a different yarn, just be sure to look up recommendations for your yarn’s fiber content 🙂

Now high five yourself because you're done my friend!
